The NCHS Band Booster organization is a vital part of our NCHS Bands Program. Mr. Carter could not offer the fantastic experiences he does without the booster’s support and guidance. The NCHS Band Booster organization is a parent/guardian volunteer-led organization that supports the NCHS Bands Program by providing volunteer, organizational, and financial assistance beyond what the district can offer. Without our support, this program would be a shadow of what it is now.
During our monthly Booster meetings, we plan and organize the various events and fundraisers that NCHS Bands host throughout the year. This includes Jazz Night, the Craft and Vendor Show, regular concerts, travel experiences, and much more. The funds raised go directly towards supporting the program, including, but not limited to, the purchase of music, instrument repair, and purchasing new school instruments.
The Booster program meets once a month between August and March. Check the band calendar for dates and times. Please contact our Band Boosters President Ellen McCarthy with any questions.

NCHS Band Boosters FAQ
Is the NCHS Band Booster only for marching band parents?
No. The Normal Marching band is its own separate program with its own boosters. The NCHS band booster program primarily provides volunteer and financial support for the NCHS concert and jazz band programs. We do plan and provide volunteer support for the NCHS Marching Ironmen, including NCHS home football games, senior marching ironmen recognition, pep band setup, and a cookout for 8th graders interested in marching band.
What’s the difference between NCHS band booster program and Unit 5 Music Parents (U5MP)?
U5MP is the umbrella 501C3 non-profit that houses all of the secondary music programs in Unit 5. The NCHS Band Booster program operates underneath U5MP, and U5MP acts as our “bank” where fundraising money is stored. All funds raised through all of the Unit 5 junior and senior high school music programs go through U5MP. We provide director’s reports during the monthly U5MP meetings.
What are the booster meetings for?
The booster meetings are primarily used for planning all of our fundraising events. During the meetings, you will hear a director’s report from Mr. Carter, a treasurer’s report, and reports from our other board members about the fundraisers and planning for any upcoming events.
Who can attend the booster meetings?
The booster meetings are open to all parents/guardians of current NCHS band students. You do not need to be on the booster board to attend! We welcome everyone to join us to learn more about the program.
Why do we have to raise money?
Due to the rising cost of music, instrument repairs, and new instruments, the district's budget is unable to meet all of the needs of the band program. The money raised by the booster program is instrumental in having a successful concert and jazz band program at NCHS.
